double jaw surgery
just thought i'd share a bit of what i've been going through the past week.. i had maxillofacial surgery, or in more understandable terms: double jaw surgery + the removal of all 4 wisdom teeth last tuesday.. which means they inserted a metal splint in the roof of my mouth to widen it and allow it to align with the botton, which they broke and moved forward to fix my overbite.. and instead of going through surgery again months later, they decided at the same time to take all 4 wisdom teeth.. all in all, i ended up with 18 elastics holding my jaw together, 2 metal splints in the roof of my mouth and 31 stitches.. it has not been an easy week to say the least.. i got out of the hospital friday and i'm slowly adapting to the liquid diet, plenty of pain killers and hot/cold packs constantly strapped onto my face.. the swelling has come down a substantial amount and i'm regaining energy every day as i'm able to get more liquids into me.. (chicken, potatoes and carrots just don't taste the same in a blender).. hah but the breakfast shakes and protein drinks are keeping me going for now.. i've already lost 11 lbs in 6 days and expected to lose more and it's so difficult to eat the expected amount of calories immediately after surgery.. it takes approximately 90 days to completely heal and be able to chew "real" food, and trust me i'm already counting down the days :)
this whole thing has been a reminder to not take the simple things for granted, such as chewing, spitting or smiling (because that hurts so much, i cry.. hah) but i am so far pleased with the results and hopefully i will be even more impressed when it's over with.. no more tmj, headaches, ear aches, clicking jaw and a perfect smile :)
happy eating people.. i envy you all who get to eat my favorite foods.. i literally have to change the channel when a food commercial comes on.. i'd do anything for DQ chicken strips, homemade lasagna, tacos and a BIG JUICY steak... ahhhh.. i'm drooling just thinking about ;) hahahah

Awe...hope it's a fast recovery for you.
When I turned 30 I wore braces for three years..and hearing your story made me glad I didn't do what all they wanted to. They wanted to do the whole widening the (top) pallet, realigning my jaw and bite..all I wanted was a nice, straight smile..which because of my age, they were ok with that. (I did have to have all 4 wisdom teeth and 4 other teeth pulled to have the braces put on..I have a small mouth..lol)
Hope when it's all done and you're healed up you have a smile to die for and you're happy with the outcome!
I can attest that having a nice smile makes all the difference in the world. :OD
