Finally stood up for myself!
As you probably know, according to my other blog, I was born with cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus. Well, I walk with a limp. I think I posted another blog about this before, but I finally did something about a major problem at work!!!!
When I first started working at the auto auction last February, I did not know what I was going to encounter. I am nice to everyone I meet because I would like that in return. That did not sit well with a co-worker of mine apparently. She was not very nice to me from the get-go and really let me have it at my first day of work. The first insult she hurled at me was aimed at the fact that I was on a chair that I could not lower and it was extremely high. I accidentally dropped my purse (oops). I was in the process of jumping off the chair to get it, and my balance isn't too good, so I took my time. The woman picks up my purse and looks at me with a nasty look and says, "I'm 75-years-old and I can move faster than you can!" I looked at her in disbelief! I just don't get it how people can be so cruel. Months later, I was leaving my lane and when she saw me she said, "Did you hurt yourself?" I set her straight by saying, "No I was born prematurely with cerebral palsy and it causes me to walk this way." All she said was, "Oh!" That was the SECOND insult. The third this past week was what really set me off and I HAD to do something! I am not the kind of person to tattle on people AT ALL, but something had to be done!
I was clocking in that morning and she hurled another remark at me as I walked away, "You should really get surgery to correct that!" (meaning my limp). For her information (which I did not disclose), I had heel cord lengthening surgery when I was in the seventh grade. My left foot used to be up in the air, and I walked on my toes. During this surgery (it was an outpatient procedure), the doctor had clipped my left achilles tendon and cut both groin muscles. Extremely painful. My parents had to carry me up and down the stairs. I could not walk for three days. Back to my story. Last week was the final straw. I went to my boss, who is very nice, and I told her what went on. After explaining my situation, she sent me to the head of Human Resources. I told the woman about the three situations that went on. She assured me that something would be done. Yesterday, I showed up to work and saw that woman for 3 seconds (we did not make eye contact, thank goodness). When I was working with someone else, she informed me that the woman was fired. It was a combination of what I said and some other things. I am a very compassionate person, and I am all about chances. I just wanted her to be reprimanded. Letting my boss and the head of HR know was a good thing, but I wasn't wanting her to be fired! I guess God and all of my relatives in Heaven were looking out for me that day. At least I don't have to deal with nastiness at work anymore!

Tara, I'm sorry you had to deal with all of that. I recall your first encounter with this woman. Thankfully, you won't have to deal with her anymore.
