Sometimes it isn't that they actually want to be in your shoes at all, but they are trying to find a way to connect with you or to reach out to you. I have no way of knowing if this is the case with your friend, not being there to see how it is for you. When a friend has something terrible happen to them, suddenly their other friends don't know what to say and it feels as though they are on one side of a chasm in life and you are on the other side.
Also, another perspective to consider is this... sometimes when something bad happens to our friends, it terrifies us. Well, heck, not just sometimes! Every time! It may make her really look at her own family and kids and scare her that it's going to happen to her as well. Perhaps she is very paranoid right of something bad happening to one of her kids since she's seen it happen to you.
All different perspectives. Only you can know what is right.
I have witnessed this so many times. Certain people can not stand any attention to be given to someone else. They always want the attention - good or bad. Very unfortunate. I am glad your daughter gets to see Martina maybe she will get to meet her as well.
