For Martina McBride, CMA Fest isn’t just about the music. It’s also about giving back. Her charity, Team Music is Love, got in on the giving spirit by sponsoring a mobile food pantry during the festival.
On Friday, McBride and Team Music is Love joined forces with One Generation Away to do their part to combat hunger during CMA Fest. McBride fans traveled far and wide to help. There were helpers from 25 states and three different countries and they all took a break from the music madness at CMA Fest for a really good cause.
All in all, there was 25K pounds of food (two trucks worth!) and 292 families that were in need. The fans got down and dirty to unload the food for these precious families. McBride was also on hand to personally greet and welcome the families (she also brought balloons for the kids!).
It was also important that the food was healthy. There was farm fresh produce and kitchen staples to help the families stock their homes. This was a really important event because Feeding America estimates that one in six Tennesseans struggle with food and one in four kids go to bed hungry at night. McBride’s charity made a huge impact through this event — in just one day.
It wasn’t just about feeding these families for Team Music is Love. The Word Wagon also showed up to give the families a little extra surprise. They gave out free summer reading books! The Word Wagon is a non profit that is “dedicated to promoting literacy in low-income neighborhoods by providing reading opportunities and placing reading materials in the hands of children.”
Fifth Third Bank and Tristar Southern Hills Medical Center were also on hand to provide financial and medical services to these families.
