    1) Losing someone I love
    2) Snakes and spiders (pretty much anything with less legs than me or more legs than my dog!)
    3) The ocean - ever since a strong undertow pulled me out on a raft (I was a little too relaxed on it) when I was 14, waaaaay out into shark territory! I now have respect (and fear) of the great ocean and won't go in deeper than my waist!

Aw, it really does hurt to lose someone that you love, does'nt it?! You know what though, you distract from the very sanctity of life itself by holding that fear to close to you. I don't know if you are speaking of the recent death of someone or the heartache of a relationship break up, regardless; I am sorry for your pain, I really am.

Actually, thank God, neither has happened (lately, anyway). It's just a raw, natural fear of mine. Thanks, though, for your heartfelt concern!

Oh, and BTW...like you, I actually had a fear of going under anesthesia when I was in high school and needed my wisdom teeth removed. I was a nervous wreck and told the doctor beforehand of my fears. He jokingly said not to worry. Well, after the procedure, I had an extremely difficult time "waking up." When my parents asked why, I remember hearing the nurse say, "Well, she started coming out of the anesthesia, so we had to give her a bit more, so it'll be a little while longer." True story! (Not to scare you!! LOL...) I've never forgotten that, and have been very nervous each of the few times since that I've had surgery. No worries, though. That was a fluke!

Realistic fears: losing someone I love, serious illness.

Unrealistic fears or phobias: tornadoes, pitch dark (not afraid of what's in the dark, but the loss of control/helpless element makes me panic), The Statue of Liberty...yes, you read that correctly. Don't like large statues in general, but ever since I was a tiny kid she's freaked me out!

Not crazy about, but can deal with: enclosed spaces, heights, flying, snakes and stinging insects.

I have many fears. I think I fear everything listed so far. Ones that have not been mentioned are fire, being by myself, being in unfamiliar places. The list goes on and on. lol

You are not the only one with that fear. I have it too. It didnt help after I read the manual to my power chair and it says stray radio signals can cause it to pretty much take on a mind of its own. Nice!! Another fear I have dealing with the wheelchair is having to use a manual chair. I have to give up all control and trust someone else. Not easy!

    Paiger and My Pepsi:

Please forgive me if this is being too nosy, why are you in wheelchairs, etc.? I think that your reactions are perfectly natural. I was in one for about a month about 1.5 yrs. ago after major foot and ankle surgery. I was so happy the day that I did not need it any longer!

I have Mitochondrial Myopathy. It is a form of Muscular Dystrophy. In my case, my voluntary muscles dont store energy from the foods I eat. I'm blessed that, that is the only effect it has on me.

Thanks My Pepsi. There must be a strory behind using "My Pepsi" for a name, huh? Wanna make up or tell me a real mame, you know a human type one, LOL!

Ladies, let me know if you are interested in opening a thread on this. I don't want to presssure either of you of, just PM or let me know here if you want to. I also have have hearing loss, secondary to tinnitus,(ringing in the ears) and I know that there are times that I wish that I could educate others. The most frequent annoyance with me is the public will tend to talk down to me,often using simpler words or phrases; as though to imply the problem is with my intelligence. They don't know that I can't hear much from the side and almost nothing in back of me.

Anyway, this is not about me. Just wondering if there are things that you have wanted to tell others. We all know that the last thing anyone wants in these (disability) situations is pity, right?

Interesting. I have dysautonomia or autonomic neuropathy which is a neurological disorder that effects pretty much everything that's involuntary. I usually do very well with it.
