Wow! This was the fifth time I've seen Martina, and it was far away the best she's sounded YET! The voice was A+, and the setlist was awesome. Sarah Buxton was a SUPERB addition to the tour, and Trace was great (except for the over-sexed videos constantly playing). As far as highlight of Martina's set:
"I'm Trying" - one of the most poignant moments of the night. LOVE this song and so glad she decided to do it live.
"Love's The Only House"/"Blessed" - nailed all the high Es in Blessed, didn't opt out of any of them.
"Two More Bottles Of Wine" - my friend leaned over to me and asked what CD this was on (she never heard it), and asked why the heck she doesn't rerecord and release it. i always enjoyed the song, but hearing it last night blew me away!
"Where Would You Be" - thrilling! she wasn't flat like she normally is when she launches into the chorus the first two times. nailed everything.
"A Broken Wing" - NAILED it.
"Don't Stop Believin'" - incredible.
I think Martina likes coming to Reading, I know we sure love to host her. It's funny, no one stood for the entirety of Trace's set until the last song (Honkytonk Badonkadonk), but then people were on their feet for most of Martina.
Only downside was a reminder of one of my pet peeves: people who purchase floor seats and then yell and carry on for people to sit down in front of them. Unapologetically, I say that we buy those seats because we want to stand and ENJOY ourselves at these concerts. It's so distracting, and downright rude, to yell while Martina is singing for people to sit down. If you want to sit the whole time, then purchase seats in the stands. Ironically, one of the guys that was sitting behind me was the one yelling this; yet, when it was time for Help Me Make It Through The Night, he was sure to sing every word! And that was really distracting, too. Oh well.
Martina concert #6 tomorrow night in Fairfax! I'm introducing my girlfriend to the world of Martina!

I WILL be STANDING in the third row maybe closer for Martina's concert in Evansville. Just a fair warning to all who sits behind me cause I probably won't look back.
You still going to columbia??? Where are you sitting? I dont want to bring my super soaker but if I must. Drat!! I dont even remember where I am sitting. Ohhhh I am in for a surprise.
HaHa Sam Yes I am going to Columbia. I am 3rd row center so I probably wouldn't be in front of ya so no need for the soaker. Yeah I can't sit especially during the upbeat. The slow songs yes I will sit.

RE: Reading, PA
I had an exciting and incredible time at the concert!
Martina can never disappoint!!
Sarah Buxton was already performing when I got there. She did a good job with 'Outside My Window' and her other songs. Trace was great and really gave love and admiration to Martina more than once. I really enjoyed his video before the first song. It was hilarious.
Trace's Setlist:
Got My Game On
Swing
Songs About Me
Feel Something (not sure of the title), but I really liked the song
All I Could Ask For Anymore
Marry For Money
Chrome
Rough & Ready
You're Gonna Miss This
Hot Mama
Ladies Love Country Boys
Honkytonk Badonkeydonk (sorry for the misspelling)
Encore: Muddy Water
Keep On (not sure of the title)
I really enjoyed the background during Martina's set and the sound was superb as always!! The moon for 'Concrete Angel' and Martina performing less than 50 feet away from me for her performances of 'I'm Trying' and 'Love's The Only House/Blessed' was the icing on the cake. The only disappointment of the night was the people sitting behind me. They were drunk and loud. They were making comments all throughout 'Help Me Make It Through The Night'. The people around me were also giving them dirty looks and they finally took the hint. There was so much energy for this show and the encore was absolutely amazing. Martina picked two of my favorite 80's songs from the 80's!!
Martina's Setlist:
Ride
When God-Fearing Women Get The Blues
Happy Girl
Walk Away
Wild Angels
My Baby Loves Me
Wrong Baby Wrong Baby Wrong
Lean On Me (this was good and the crowd were clapping throughout the song)
Help Me Make It Through The Night
Anyway (acoustic version was incredible & her voice made me speechless) WOW!
Concrete Angel (Very emotional and moving performance)
I'm Trying (Very emotional and moving; I LOVE this song!)
Love's The Only House/Blessed (this has got to be a keeper)!!
This One's For The Girls (many men sitting around me were singing this song too!)
Two More Bottles Of Wine
You're Not Leaving Me
Where Would You Be (this song and her powerful voice brough me to tears! WOW!!)
A Broken Wing (same reaction as WWYB)
Independence Day
Encore: Living On A Prayer (Martina really rocked this song and the people were really into it too!!)
Summer Of 69 (people were singing along to this one and Martina rocked this one too!)
Again, Martina was absolutely incredible!! Thank you for a memorable and amazing evening!!

RE: Reading, PA
Glad you all had a great time, love reading the reviews. In all the years I have been going to concerts, I can not stop myself from sitting, standing, singing (not loud, I am a really BAD singer) dancing in my space an so on. I go there to enjoy the music and have fun.
If someone had a disability behind me, I would take that into consideration if asked nicely.
Heidi, my hubby is the same way, he actually yelled at me years ago to sit because I was on my seat dancing and pregnant. It is very sad for a man when a wife does not comply...LOL

I also, paid good money to enjoy my concert and if that means standing or singing then that is what I will do. I am there to show support to Martina not care what the people behind me think or say.
And Thanks Dave for the review.

Ditto. I'll be one row behind you at that show, same section I imagine. Standing. Showing her my support.
There are supposed to be special sections at concerts for those with handicaps to sit and have unobstructed views. Beyond that, you can't expect thousands of other fans to all conform just for the sake of a few individuals. We paid the same amount too, and we all have our own ways of showing support to the performers.
When in doubt, always do the RIGHT thing from your own heart. -
RE: Reading, PA
The floor sections in Reading lacked seperation along the aisles that went left to right. I suspect the second stage caused the problem since it was much further back from the main stage than any other time that I've seen on this tour.

Yes there are "special" sections. Have you ever sat there? You should take a look at them at your next concert. Take a walk along there between acts. You will see how "special" the seats are. In my experience they are rarely unobstructed. Thanks to the 6 foot over intoxicated people standing in front of me. Then there are the people walking behind me. It seems like every other person kicks my chair. And nobody says I'm sorry or excuse me. Those seats scare me because of my fear of high places. They are off the floor, 20 plus rows. Some are to the far side of the stage and some in the back of the venue. I don’t feel like part of the concert. You call that special? Special to me means I feel like a princess, not an outcast.
Now, do I expect front row seats? No, I have been there done that. And I prefer to be 6 to 12 rows back. I wouldn’t turn down front row seats, but I don’t expect them. Do I expect people to sit the whole concert? No, It is part of being at a concert. I get that. I like being in the crowd. But you could take a look around you before the show and see if there are people shorter than you around. Maybe if you stand to the left or right side of your seat they could see better.
I have so much to say on this topic. I could probably right a book. If people would just try on other peoples shoes once in a while... -
RE: Reading, PA
My Mom really enjoyed the show. I am so glad she was capable of going to it.
I happened to get stuck in oklahoma as no flights left out Thurday or Friday. I made
a few calls and she was able to pick up the tickets at WIll CAll.
Martina in my backyard and stuck out of town. Well hopefully Pittsburg and Richmond
will work out better for me. I was hoping for 3 shows this year but guess 2 will have to
work.

No way! I sat behind your mom (14th and 15th rows) and she told me that you were stuck down there! I felt bad for her, concerts are always more fun with other people, but she seemed to enjoy it!

RE: Reading, PA
First of all, thank you Louie for the highlights. The sit/stand issue is always a point of contention between my husband and I. He states that he, "Goes to hear good music and not to stand or listen to others sing." I tell him he's an old fuddy-duddy. I sing every song myself, but quietly. I am with him on paying to hear Martina sing and not the tone deaf person behind me.

"Hail to West Virginia, Hail!"
Join the club Heidi. Wes is the exact same way. He wants to sit down and enjoy it while I'm the one standing. Needless to say he didn't go to my last 2 concerts -
RE: Reading, PA
I agree, Martina was AMAZING during her performance!! But then again, she's always amazing! I had the awesome opportunity to get the front row seats and the meet & greet passes to meet Martina before she went on stage...that just made my night all the more special! Now I have a picture of me with my absolute favorite singer. I'm still in shock that I got to meet her and get her to sign my CD! She is absolutely gorgeous and such an amazing woman! (which I already knew...lol) I pray I get the chance to meet her again someday. I plan on going to see her 2 more times during the Shine All Night tour and am very excited about it!
The Reading show was even better than I expected...Martina's song choices were incredible and she nailed everything (as always..lol). Never missed a beat the entire 2 hours she performed! I'm still amazed at how she can run in those heels! lol I love the moon ride and that she gives the fans sitting out further the chance to be closer for a couple songs...I gotta say, I was up dancing and quietly singing along a lot thru her entire set...but thankfully no one around me said anything...probably because they were also up out of their seats...my friend sitting in the fourth row did have someone on her case about standing but I think she still continued to do her thing...that's what concerts are about! And people have to go expecting that we are going to get into the songs (at least the upbeat songs) and get up and dance around...that shows our support for Martina...I sit during all the slow songs until the end when we give standing ovations...which btw, Martina got 2 in a row and she was totally touched by that! but she totally deserved them! Now I understand if people are disabled, not to stand up as much as normal, but they should still understand that sometimes you just gotta jump up for Martina (if you are able to) and I'm not trying to be mean about it, just reasonable...ask nicely for people around you to maybe keep the standing to a minnimum if you are absolutely unable to stand up with them...now I haven't seen where the disabled sections really are at these venues, but at least they have a section for it. Now the people that are able to stand but choose not to or are in a bad mood an just don't feel like it, I don't feel sorry for them at all...it's a concert and they need to expect people to get into the music...
Ok, that's my opinion on the matter, but regardless, Martina did put on an amazing show and her set-up totally rocked! Can't wait to see her again!

Yes indeed, it is sad when a wife does not comply with her husband's wishes. But that was then.....and this is now. Because today we have been blessed with a show of enlightenment and progressiveness which teaches us things like politially correct speech, non violent approaches to problems, racial tolerance and how to treat pass aroun......I mean those of the fairer sex.
Your husband merely does not want you "riding diva" over a Martina concert. Or any other concert for that matter.
If today you tried to make a spectacle of yourself by standing on a chair and doing "the Pregasauros" your now Clay Morrow like husband would have three options on how to handle an unruly old lad.....I mean wife.
1) Smash the windows of her vehicle with a cinder block.
2) Go out of state to another charter and go on a "cheerleader hunt".
3) Go to a wrap party.....even though those movies "make his skin crawl" and have a good old time.
In other words your new and improved husband goes by the philosophy of "WWCMD?". "What would Clay Morrow do?".
Why do I think I just lost a ton of friends with this post.....starting with Leigh? Oh well that is because everyone is jealous because I am so enlightened.....or something. LMAO!!!!!! -
RE: Reading, PA
First, I just LOVE Teeeee's abstract comments and views. Always have. Keep it up!
Second, my apologies for continuing to hijack a thread that was supposed to be about a good time had at Reading.
Perhaps this whole standing/not standing thing needs it's own thread.
Third, and just like Teeeee, I doubt I'll win any new friends with this one, but here goes nothing...
If you KNOW beforehand that you have a disability that will prevent you from standing for 2 hours, but you go ahead and buy a floor seat anyway, then it's YOU who screwed up and made the wrong choice. Not us. Don't expect an entire section to act as YOU expect them to. You have ZERO right to tell other fans how to act or show their support at a concert. NONE!!!!!!!!!
Buy an actual seat in the stands. That way it won't such a big issue. I've had to do it before, when I was hurting too badly to stand that long.
It's no secret that I have terrible back issues. I just had to give up a May 1st floor seat on this forum due to needing back surgery for the 3rd time next month. But I absolutely will not let that keep me from standing alot during the shows I see over the next 3 weeks. I'll just eat more pills if it hurts alot. Big friggin deal.
I want M to look out over the floor section and see a sea of standing people, arms waving, really getting into her performance, showing our love for her in that respect. Anything less would likely disappoint her. -

Well I am glad that someone here appreciates my enlightened way of thinking. My references are somewhat obscure since thay are from the FX show "Sons of Anarchy" (which Leigh does in fact watch so she will understand them) and my views are what I would term as "cutting edge" and "progressive" in a cave man sort of way. I am hoping to mainstream both my references and my views to be honest.
And I hope *some people* take note of what is NOT included in what plritchie hopes to see at Martina concerts. And those are some crazy woman dancing on a chair and some heidimorris type doing her best Taylor.....I mean Katleen Edwards vocal impression.
I've been having recurring nightmares that I go to a concert and Leigh is doing some kind of dance on a chair to my right and heidihegnermorris is singing off key to my left. And we are the only three people at the concert. And it is a dry venue to boot. And I can't even get a good contact high because AIA is not in attendence.
It is like I dreamed I went to aa concert and ended up in the middle of an escape from Bellvue or something. It is quite traumatizing to be perfectly frank. -

Teeee, you realize what it is that makes you have such an abstract mind, right?
It's a combination of split personalities....the good kind....and a high IQ..
That's why I've always identified with your views. I have those qualities too.....
Oh, and the main quality. We don't give a **** what people think about what we say. We tell the cold hard truth, in our own unique and sometimes abrasive ways.
Being a writer is my excuse. What's yours?...:)
When in doubt, always do the RIGHT thing from your own heart. -
RE: Reading, PA
My excuse is that I was born "special" and I know everyone here is JEALOUS about that too.
And I just try to keep it real here. I gotta make sure that the Leighs and the heidihegnermorrises of the world know that this "women's empowerment" thang rom Martina is just a case of artistic liscence and not to be taken literally.
And on and on I go......making new "friends" with each and every new post. LMAO!!!!!!
BTW, I saw a post from you a while back that was something that would have been right out of my playbook. I was LMAO so hard when I read it that my sides hurt. I'll bet if you were not to atatch a username to that particular post most people would have guessed it was a post of mine. And that was a post you made on Sarah Palin and that "movie". I even had to do some "research" and indeed it was real! The whole way you worded it with the "actress" and the "downloaded it for free" was totally something that could easily have come from my rather abstract mind. That was a freaking scream!
Matter of fact in my original post I refered to a wrap party and certain movies "making ones skin craawl"....well lets just say your post and mine were along the EXACT same line. Leigh for sure knows what scene in SOA I am talking about.
Of course everyone here totally avoided replying to that post of yours! Kind of a trend with the both of us I see. LMAO!!!!!! -

We are "special", aren't we?? Not sure if that's a good thing or not for both of us. But...it's as it should be. Play the hand you're dealt. Bluff when if sucks, bluff when it's awesome. Cash in if you can.
Regarding that Palin post I made in the general topic area. Obviously I was going for humor. Albeit some pretty out there humor. But I knew when I wrote it that it would be avoided like the plague.
Palin is one of those people....either she gets extreme loyalty, or she gets extreme hatred. No middle ground.
I personally don't give 3 s***s in the breeze about the woman, one way or the other. If she tried to run in 2012, she'll get squashed like a bug tho. But....that's political. Sorry.
Two types of minds out there mainly Teeee. The literal mind, which the majority have, and the figurative mind, which few people have. However there is a 3rd rare type. The mind that combines both aspects equally. Very rare. That would be our catagory. Born with it, no way around it. We see the world differently than most.
Our small circle of friends "get" us, and the rest just scratch their heads due to incomprehension. It's always been that way, 48 years and counting.....
Meanwhile, back to the topic.....
So, Reading was great huh?
