Operation We're Gonna Love Them Through It - a project to deliver Christmas stockings to cancer patients around the country has really taken off!
We now have people in 14 states and Canada participating. By next week this project will have touched approx 900-1000 cancer patients. It could actually be more before we're done.
There were 60 stockings delivered already to kids at City of Hope Cancer Center in the Los Angeles area, 380 stockings are going to cancer patients this week in Nevada, 110 stockings in PA next Monday, 100 in Fort Walton Beach, FL, 150 in Nashville, TN... and the list goes on.
Each stocking is filled with things that patients need and will enjoy as they sit through chemo treatments, which can last 3-4 hours - lotions, chap stick, books, cd's, hats, etc. And includes a note about our effort and Martina and her song.
This project was the brainchild of Taira Baughman. She was in Martina's video for IGLYTI. She said that when she was going through chemo last year in Nashville, her skin was always dry, lips chapped, it was cold and sometimes lonely and scary.... especially at Christmas. She said the patients tried to entertain and cheer each other up.
So many Martina fans around the country have volunteered get these stockings filled and to coordinate with local hospitals and then show up next week at their local cancer centers to visit with these people where they can and LOVE THEM THROUGH IT... even if it's only for a few minutes with a small gift.
As Team Martina, we wanted a personal way to touch cancer patients this Christmas and spend face to face time with them and let them know we care. I asked Taira what she thought we could do and this project was what she designed. She has spearheaded it. Team Martina has worked to spread the word all over the country and make it an international project.

Wow! This is Awesome! Thanks to everyone who participated . It is no fun being in the hospital over any holiday let alone on Christmas. When my daughter had cancer treatment twice when growing up we live so close that we didn't have to stay inpatient. When she worked Christmas day at the adult cancer house no one was staying there or inpatient at the hospital and that has never happened the other two years before.
When we walk to the edge of all the light we have and take the step into the darkness of the unknown, we must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for us to stand on or we will be taught to fly.--Patrick Overton -

SO SAD to hear this. She definitely is in our prayers. In fact, I saw her in the IGLYTI video this morning, and thought of her the rest of the day. Hoping her doctor's visit tomorrow will give her some good news and hope.

and the doctors will have a good plan in place.
