Martina McBride‘s new single, ‘I’m Gonna Love You Through It,’ is another strong and moving song from the powerhouse singer that her fans have really grown to love. The moving ballad about a woman battling cancer was written by Ben Hayslip, Jimmy Yeary and Yeary’s wife, Sonya Isaacs.
“This was probably the first song I’ve ever written [about cancer],” Hayslip tells Taste of Country. “Sonya had the idea when she came in that day. Sonya’s mom had breast cancer and fought a hard battle through it. We started on this song, and we actually called Sonya’s mom on the phone and put her on speaker phone. We probably talked to her for a good 45 minutes, just about what she went through and how Sonya’s dad handled it.”
“She dropped the phone and burst into tears / The doctor just confirmed her fears / Her husband held it in and held her tight / Cancer don’t discriminate or care if you’re just 38 / With three kids who need her in their lives / He said, ‘I know that you’re afraid and I am, too / But you’ll never be alone, I promise you,’” McBride sings in the emotional opening verse of the song.
“The song is about a couple [saying] ‘We’re going to get through this together,’” notes Hayslip. “It’s not just the woman, but the man, too … ‘I’m gonna love you through it.’”
“When you’re weak, I’ll be strong / When you let go, I’ll hold on / When you need to cry, I swear that I’ll be there to dry your eyes / When you feel lost and scared to death, like you can’t take one more breath / Just take my hand, together we can do this / I’m gonna love you through it,” McBride belts in the chorus.
“It’s one of the realest songs that I’ve ever written,” says Hayslip. “I was sitting there tearing up listening to her mom talk. I’ve never had anybody in my family go through breast cancer, knock on wood, but just to hear her story … It was unbelievable. The stuff that she had to go through to stay alive. I think it’s a big song, and I think it’s a real song. Hopefully this song can change lives. Most of the time, we try to write fun, up-tempo, feel-good songs, but this one is actually going to touch a lot of lives I think.”

Thank you Don, first time I listened to that song. It is a so close to home song for me, I wasn't sure I was ready for it.

Thank you Martina for recording this song. Our KRTY Radio AvonWalk for Breast Cancer Team walked 40 miles over the weekend in San Francisco and used this song as our inspiration Saturday night. We raised $4.2 million for local cure and care efforts. Our team was 61 strong and raised more than $129,000. We were so honored to share this song with the other 2200 walkers. You have touched so many of us.

My Mom overcame breast cancer and has been cancer free for quite a few years so this song is emotional for me too! I told her about the song but I don't think she is ready to hear it yet...:) Anyways, it is a great song and think it will touch a lot of lives!

Just reading the lyrics makes me tear up! Breast cancer does not discriminate! I've had a few girlfriends fight their battle with breast cancer and it's tough! When one of them learned about hers, she came to me and said, "Michelle, I have breast cancer! I don't want to die!" I just held onto her like it was the last time I was ever going to hug her and repeatedly told her how much I loved her. She is now 8 months cancer free, but it was not an easy battle. Five to six surgeries, (doctors couldn't get it all and had to keep going back). She finally ended up with a mastectomy and is almost completed with her reconstruction. I think just one more surgery (for a nipple...we joke about this part). This person is my best friend! She is my HERO! I hope I did my best by loving her through it!
Sorry about that...this song of Martina's is going to hit a lot of hearts! Thank God we have someone as wonderful as Martina singing it!!

No, cancer doesn't discriminate. I doubt there are many people who've not lost someone they love to cancer, are about to or have someone they care about currently battling the disease.
The song sure hits me on a personal level.

A few years back,mom went through it, on her right side. She cant raise her right arm higher than straight out, because of the muscles and tissue they had to cut out.

This is exactly what good country music is supposed to do...bring people together and allow them to feel and share each other's stories. This song is definitely going to make an impact. :)

I've mentioned this before and I totally agree this song will definitely bring people together. It is such a powerful and moving song. It is a song which brought me to tears at the FC party in Nashville. It has a beautiful message to all who really listen to the words!! Great song Martina and it will sure be a HIT for you!!

I've been a fan of Martina's for years, own all of her albums, bought 3 copies of Shine and everything. This song is probably going to be the hardest song for me to listen to that she has ever released. The reason being is that my grandmother was just diagnosed with multiple forms of cancer in May and it is terminal, we don't know how long we have with her but it has been difficult for all of us to deal with. My grandfather especially. What I have heard of this song it sounds absolutely amazing and I will buy it off of Itunes the day it is released, just not sure I'll listen to it as much as I normally would a new Martina single.
I do think this is probably the best single she has released since Anyway. It is just amazing, lyrically. -

Martina~you have outdone yourself once again! What a powerful song to be released as your next single! EVERYONE who listens to this song, will be able to relate to it. They will either know someone with breast cancer or, another form of cancer. Many will be emotionally involved with the lyrics of this song, and a box of tissues will be close by.
This would be a good single to purchase in multiple copies, and pass out to those who could relate. -

Although this could be any type of cancer, and it is so sad there are so many, people I love have been through it and lost the battle or are still fighting the battle and need all the support we can give them, so I was thinking.
Carol Balwin lives close by to me and I have met her, very nice lady. If I could get a copy of this to her maybe with all the wonderful work she does, she could include this song as part of her message.
How can I or anyone download this for all the right reasons?
Any help would be appreciated . Thank you.
