Have just requested it to be played once every day from now on.
At the moment the station that I usually listen to doesn't have it yet -
but they were nice enough to play "This One's for the Girls" instead.
Let's hope that it will air here in Germany soon as I really love this song.

This is shaping up to be a like it or hate it song with no middle ground. I've never read such hateful comments about one of her songs before on other forums and I've been online since 1999. People are either liking it or hating it. The are also liking her vocals on it or hating her vocals on it.

I don't think it showcases her voice and singing talent as much as one of her "normal" songs. It is more like talking with instrumentals in the background than singing. Maybe, it will grow on me. I hope so.

I do like the lyrics, though. They are catchy. I could live without the drinking references.

This is why I generally stick to posting on one forum (this one), because it really annoys me when people post hateful comments. I understand people have different opinions on things, and some may not like the song, but I don't see the need for hateful comments whatsoever. I have recently been put off a particular forum, because the amount of 'bashing' a particular artist got over there was ridiculous. At least here, we all have our own opinions but are grown up and respectful enough to voice them in the right way.

Alright here is my take on the song, the lyrics are good and tune is, but her voice is way too screechy, it just sounds like she's trying to sound young or like a rock star, this is not one of her best, it just sounds like an old rock song or something, I'm strongly doubting Country Radio will play this. I thought she could've done better. I don't think this was the right choice for a single or first single off the new record. I don't think this will go very far. Her voice also sounded a little like a Pop star, I kind of like the story, just think her voice could've been better. I want her do well and everything but I don't think this was the best song for her and I just don't see how Radio will play it. I thought when she said her style would be more different and rootsy, it would be like some of her early albums, not so much Rock or Pop like. I've noticed she always shines on slower songs not so much the fast ones, she has a few good ones, but I don't think this was the time and place for this song.

First of all, I love Martina--I think she's the best vocalist on planet earth.

But I'm going to be honest--this song is so much weaker than any of the material on "Shine". When I heard "Ride" for the first time, I was so pumped up, and as soon as I got home I listened to it over and over again.

Is anyone else not getting that same feeling with this single?

Like I said, I love her to death, and I think the lyrics to this song are cool, but I think Republic Nashville is leading her in the wrong direction. Where was the smooth, graceful, power delivery like we always hear and know she is capable of? If I had never heard Martina's music, and this was the first song I had heard, I would say she was a rookie.

Just had to get that off my chest.

I'll admit when I first heard it, I thought it was different, especially in the way she sang it..but I do really like the song and maybe it's good that she went in a different direction. It's a bit unexpected and maybe that is a good thing! Everyone has a right to their own opinion but I think we should all give the song a chance and see how well it does before saying it won't do well! Who knows!

I don't think the song is weak. It IS, however, different! Martina purposefully cut this track with an edgy vibe. She purposefully sang it a little "rough around the edges." This is just another song showcasing Martina's versatility as a singer. She will still continue to wow us with perfect and epic sweeping ballads like she has in the past, but I love the fact that Martina is branching out. I myself was apprehensive at first with the title alone! There are many albums prior to Shine that showcases Martina at her signature and trademark best.
With this album Martina wanted to try something new, she wrote many of the songs on the album so I think it will be a personal and honest album from the heart. Often albums such as this will venture into darker autobiographical territory in conjunction with the lighthearted. I don't believe Republic Nashville is leading her in the wrong direction, on the contrary they are giving her artistic freedom.
I love the fact that that I won't get bored having Martina and only Martina piping through my IPod as I cycle around the lake or blast out loud at home. Not many artists are versatile enough to hold my attention that long before I have to listen to another voice. lol I'll take as much versatility from Martina as I can get because she has one of those rare voices that can conquer any genre. Whether or not this will do well on radio only time will tell, but I can definitely appreciate the fact that Martina wants to show us other facets and styles of her personality and amazing voice.
PS: Lets not forget there is a whole entire album of material we have yet to hear!
