It was Unchained Melody. My sister who passed away 2 years ago from cancer was a fan of the Righteous Brothers in the 60's. And Patrick Swayze in Ghost. The song has been sung by many over the years. It was beautifully sung by Martina!
When we walk to the edge of all the light we have and take the step into the darkness of the unknown, we must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for us to stand on or we will be taught to fly.--Patrick Overton

One word. Wow. What a fabulous and touching tribute to those loved ones and celebrities that we've lost to this evil disease. Beautifully sung, beautifully done.

    A moving performance....

Am I the only one who was not impressed at all by this performance? Stevie added all of those runs into his part which, I get it, Stevie Wonder can do what Stevie Wonder wants but this was a group performance.... Not a Stevie performance. I felt no collaboration whatsoever. With all the vocal runs Stevie was doing, it was making the "harmonies" sound ridiculous. I feel like it would've been okay if not for Stevie trying to steal the performance away.

On a lighter note, Martina McBride... I love you and I think you are absolutely phenomenal for doing this.

If given the chance, she could've blown the audience away with that song... solo.

To all who has lost someone to cancer or know someone who is currently battling cancer (maybe it's you) my prayers and support go out to you. This is a rough mountain that has to be climbed and, if it's someone on the Martina boards, you know your fellow Martina fans will be here for you.

I was also not impressed. I thought it sounded just "thrown" together and not meshed with harmonies and such. They should have just done solo performances or something....

So glad not everyone was impressed! It really did sound thrown together. Didn't sound like they rehearsed it... Disappointing. Oh well! Maybe next time.

    I was not impressed either.

Martina sounded great as usual but everyone else she was singing with had to try and change the song and not just sing it the way it was written. ( like Martina )........ I love how she sings other artists songs the way they were orginally recorded!!! That is one of manyyyyyyy reasons she is my favorite! :)

Also if you watched the Stand Up to Cancer online after it was over on tv Martina sang Wrong Baby Wrong. She sounded amazingggg!!!

I have to agree. Although I did think the song was moving, especially with the pictures in the background, the overall performance of the song could have been much better. Except for Martina of course!

How come when I try to listen to the link, it sounds really bad? Is it my computer? I know Martina doesn't sound the way I'm hearing it! LOL. Love it regardless but I only listened halfway through because the audio I'm getting makes her sound terrible... What's the deal?? My computer? Her mic? The recording in general? Thanks for sharing!!!! Love her!

Ohh!!! I totally agree......glad someone else brought it up first! She sounds pitchy or off-key or something. And her "belt out notes" don't seem as strong either. Maybe it was just the audio production? She was perfect las weekend when I saw her in GI

LOL. I'm not going to say it's a "great" performance if it's not!! It must've been that night... It's not my speakers because I just watched a different YouTube video of her and THAT audio was fabulous. I don't know what's wrong with the sound for SU2C. I'm pretty upset about it. It's not just Martina either... but yeah. Whatever it is, made her sound terrible. And our girl doesn't EVER sound terrible!

I disagee that Stevie Wonder distracted from this being a group perfoprmance. As is often the norm, the senior ranking performer led and Martina stareted with her part of the chorus, etc, etc. Stevie responed with, "I need your love," and the others sang their part. I fail to understand how this was Stevie taking over.

I do agree that there was something missing with the sound. I looked at the WBW video as well on youtube and the acoustics were amiss. When the camera panned the audience it appeared that the setting was lacking for adequate acoustics. I can't say for certain, it appears that the sound would just bounce all over the place in that auditorium. I was listening to the links on my computer with my Bose headphones and it just did not sound right.

Is it just me or does anyone else get the vibe from Leona looking/acting completely full of herself.

Just one thing I found completely disrespectful was her on the red carpet wearing an evening gown, when everyone else was wearing a Stand Up 2 Cancer shirt....I found that really odd and maybe I'm just strange but I thought it was a bit disrespectful.

Yes, that was very disrespectful. Good taste would dictate a time and a place for these type of things. This was not a glam event. She came off as tacky for such a display of vanity. So many associate cancer with chemotheraphy and associated hair loss, ashen skin, pain, etc. You simply should not display vanity to any cancer theme.

I don't like to be disrespectful towards other artists, but to me Leona has come off as full of herself many times... And it was very disrespectful to refuse to wear what everyone else was wearing.

I meant with all of his vocal runs he was doing on what seemed to be every single word. You don't do that on a group performance. If he was planning on doing all the vocal runs, they should've worked that into the rehearsals (if they rehearsed at all). It was just bad. Maybe with rehearsals, they could've nailed it. That's all I meant :)
