Coming together for the YWCA
As we all know, Martina holds an event during CMA Fest for the YWCA. Many of her celebrity friends donate items to auction off at the "Martina McBride Celebrity Auction" benefiting the YW. It has grown so much over the years! I remember when a pair of Martina's overall's went for $150. :-) Now, one of her shirts or a pair of her shoes can go for thousands. It was brought to my attention a few years ago that some of you would like to help and support Martina's passion for the YWCA even though you may not have thousands to donate, or you are unable to attend CMA Fest. So, how can you help?
Last year I collected donations from Martina's fans, and presented the YW with cash the day of the auction. The YW staff was overwhelmed by our generosity. The way we gave of our hearts and helped out expecting nothing in return. Infact, they even said, "Martina has the most giving fans!" I totally agree!
I'm late in getting this announcement out this year, but I believe we can still bring in a nice amount to give to the YW this year. I'd love to see the YW staff smile again. Last year fans did a car wash, sold candy bars, and gave from their hearts...Even $5 made a difference.
Please message me or email me and let me know if you'd like to donate anything at all to this wonderful organization that Martina and myself have grown to love and support over the years. I will present the funds to the YW the day of the auction with a card listing everyone's names. The amount you donate will not be disclosed, so don't feel like you have to give more than you think you can. Thank You so much to those of you who have contacted me asking if I would be collecting the money again this year. It warms my heart to see you care as much as I do about the women and children who use the services the YW of Middle Tennessee has to offer. They couldn't do all they do without people like Martina, her celebrity friends, and generous people like You!

RE: Coming together for the YWCA
Hope you all had a great Memorial Weekend! I'm getting excited to see so many of you during CMA Fest! Love when friends from all over the country come together in this beautiful city. :-) Fun times!
Just a reminder this is the last week to send donations to be included in the YW gift from Martina's fans. Please let me know if you'd like to participate if you haven't already. Big thanks to everybody who's contributing this year!! I've heard from some new people which is always enjoyable for me...getting to know new fans through this process. Thanks to each and every one of you! You Rock!
Enjoy the week. :-)

RE: Coming together for the YWCA
Personally I think the best way is to mail a check if you cant attend. Just put in care of Martina FC. I would never give a stranger money. The YWCA don't need a third party to do this. I was there and nothing was even mentioned about a donation from fans or last year either. Sounds a little fishy to me. There is no way to track the donations, that concerns me.
Not sure why people would contact you, your no different than any of us.
Jus sayin !

RE: Coming together for the YWCA
I tend to agree. Why would there be a need to give donations to a third party when there are so many ways you can donate directly. I would not trust a stranger even if he/she was/is on the Martina board to properly deliver the money. Sometimes I think people do this for the sheer satisfaction of being the one who gets to present the donation to the artist or organization in hopes to gain perks or acknowledgment. I notice a total was never given out of the money collected. How are the people that donated to know if the money ever even reached the YWCA? Too many money scams out there. Please be careful and not fall for them. Everything that glitters isn't gold ;0)

Hey guys -
Just felt the need to respond to this thread...I agree that it is probably best to send donations directly to any organization - however, I do know Jessica, and know that she has only the best intentions. This was something she took on herself, so I'm not sure of the outcome, but can guarantee that if any of you sent her money for the YW that it went to the right people. If anyone would like to donate directly to the YWCA on your own or in Martina's name you may do so by sending your check to:
YWCA

Thanks again to all of you that donated or just spectated - it was a great event for a great cause!

RE: Coming together for the YWCA
I organized something like this for a few years back in the 90's when the auction was held down the hill from the fair grounds. I had folks from the board send checks directly to the YWCA then they annouced what we raised and gave M a card with everyones name on it, one year I believe we raised around $1,200.
and Jessica about those overalls, I won them at M's 98 fan club party not the YWCA and they went for $125, gave them to my 10 yr old niece, they fit perfect for a few years!!

RE: Coming together for the YWCA
Just letting those who have speculated know that Yes, Storme Warren did say Thank You to Martina's Fan Club for the money you raised. He said it at the very end as Martina left the stage last year. Notice, he did not say Thank you "Jessica", so those who think it's all about me...think again. That was the YW staff's idea to tell him, I in no way asked for it to be promoted. This year, they did not tell him (maybe they did and he just forgot to mention it), but I know they received the money because this year the President and CEO of the YWCA came to me and said she "was so grateful for my willingness to want to support the YW to organize this amongst Martina's Fans" (which means she received the card with the cash inside). Thank You to those who donated. Both years we have raised a few hundred dollars. I donate directly to the YW several times throughout the year personally for special occasions. The only reason I organized this was so others who maybe couldn't bid $1,600 on Martina's top or were unable to attend could contribute. It is their choice to do so and I am glad they did. It's not for me to gain any kind of recognition or be spotlighted or whatever the negetaive people are thinking and saying. Infact, the card clearly lists each of the contributors names and says "Love, Martina McBride Fans" so MY name is not highlighted anywhere. The only reason they know who I am is because I attend every year. I was even interviewed on the news the year that Martina did not attend due to her pregnancy, and they said "Even when Martina McBride is absent at the auction...you continue to attend, can you tell us why the YW is so special to you?" Thanks to those of you who have trusted me. As Tracy said, the money went where it was intended. I'm glad we could do that much more to add to the over all total. Y'all can say whatever you want to say, as long as Martina and the YW know those of us who doanted were doing it for the right reasons, and the YW are given the funds...that's all that matters to me! I'm out to help the survivors, not gain recognition or defend myself to those who cast judgement. Thanks.
