SCALPERS

November 23, 2009 at 1:10 PM By: Dayna

Patti and I were talking to these 2 scalpers on teh street in St Paul because they were trying to sell us a third row seat. I asked how they got that seat and they said TicketKing and that they have this software that can by hundreds of tickets at a time to re-sell.. They laughed at us and said that scalpers are fan club members

Darren, Eddie, how do they get software to do that? Just curious..

Were they Martina fan club members or Trace fan club members?

Our system doesn't allow that many tickets to be purchased by any one member.

It blows me away how many tickets are on ebay that are in first 10 rows.

Some are listed at 6 times the face value !!
It is very unfortunate that states have repelled or given up enforcing ticket scalping laws and ticketmaster does little to help the problem.

they didnt specifically say what fan club.. I just think they work for TicketKing or something. That building was on teh same street.. but they said they had special software that allows them to buy a lot at a time. maybe they use it with ticketmaster.

I don't know what the charges are but I'm sure some make a living doing just that with money salted away for a good lawyer if they get caught. I would think that them darn capitalist Scalpers on ebay could easily be tracked down but if you start a show ticket at $1.00 and state that must sell due to death in family or something, it goes for $500.00 due to supply and demand. What law was just broken?

Really Dayna, you were so much prison bait for doing that. Play it safe next time and register with the venue cop as an informant.sarcasm

Ticket scalping is a city-to-city type thing. For example, here in Seattle, selling one's tickets *may* be done, but it must be done at least 100 yards away from the venue's property. Every time I go to a Seahawks game (season ticket holder), there are dozens of scalpers buying and selling tickets with police officers not more than 10 feet away from them. In fact, I've bought Mariners tickets a few times off "scalpers" -- for a very good price too.

Now, I was just in Austin, Texas at a ground(ctrl) ticketed event (Fun Fun Fun Festival) and we had problems with scalpers. We stopped and asked a local policeman on patrol what the law regarding ticket scalping was and he said that there was no law against it, as long as the tickets were being sold for at least face-value.

So there you have it, two different cities, to different sets of rules. In some cities, I am sure it is completely against the law.

    In Montreal. Scalping is legal.

When I went to see the Habs play the Wild last year. My dad bought tickets off of TicketKing.
