Here is what info Greg posted last night about the Points...hope this helps, but can't wait for even more details soon!

Hello! There has been some confusion / questions about points. How they work, what they are for, Can they cure male pattern baldness? I might have made that last part up, but the answer is no.

Points are awarded to users based on activity on the site. The current set up is like so:

Repeatable:
"Being Social" - Posting Blogs, Commenting, all around being active.

Unlockable:
Signup, Value: 1pts
Be a member for 5 days, Value: 50pts
Be a member for a month, Value: 100pts
Be a member for a year, Value: 500pts
Have 5 friends, Value: 50pts
Have 15 friends, Value 100pts
Have 50 friends, 500pts

You can view your points history by clicking on your points total in the dashboard, or on your profile.

Now what do they mean? In the near future items will be made available for purchase with these points, Some of these items could be physical, or digital. I can't say yet what these things might be but they will be awesome! We have some improvements in the works for the points system like rewarding a blogger for creating a popular blog with other users (based on original comments), or starting a thread in the forums that gets a certain amount of replies.

When you spend points your visible total will remain the same (as other users see it), but your available points to spend will decrease, you can view your spending history on the same pages mentioned above.

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT POINTS (the not fun part)
There are a couple flaws in the system, I will toss em out here so everyone knows we know about them and taking advantage of these flaws will be noticed. When you post a blog you get 10pts, when you delete that blog the system fails for remove the points, So this is an official warning, posting and deleting blogs just for the points can result in losing ALL of your points, posting one word blogs just for the points can result in losing ALL of your points, crazy spamming for points can result in losing ALL of your points. It is very obvious when the average user has one value of points and 1 person has 100 times that amount.

We have fixes slated to close these loopholes, however everyone seems really amazing on the site so far, I have no worries about this being a problem. We rely on all of you to report what you see to be repeated abuse (not all and every questionable post) but if a pattern is noticed please alert one of us and we will look into it.

OMGosh- OKC!!! You git to go to a show!! Very stoked for ya!!!

I am sure once the store is up and running the points will become more clear. I think they are like frequent flyer miles, or like coupons that you can use to buy stuff. The more you accumulate the more of a discount their is.

I'm looking forward to seeing what cool stuff we will be able to get for the points!! :)
