The 2nd link talks about even colder air for next week -
As for how long the cold snap may last, forecasters said theres a chance even colder air could move in early next week. How cold it gets will depend on how much cloud cover there is.

Theres some inconsistencies in the models right now, meteorologist Julie Malingowski said ¯If it does clear out, were doomed.

when was the last time you heard a meteorologist say were doomed LOL

You certainly make me happy to be where I am eventhough the Christmas Markets have opened and it's actually a bit too warm for that at the moment. This year has been weird for temperatures and rainfall - while the summer was absolutly wet (and too cold for my taste) the November now is too dry (this is usually the wet month here) - so dry in fact that we have some forest fires in Bavaria at the moment.

No wonder they are always warning in the news here of the bad "Eastern Winds" - so far thought that it orginiated in Siberia and now I know that you're the one sending it all to us
    That is NOT nice

I am so thankful to be where I am right now. Don you are too funny bragging about your finer weather. :)
But have to say, it's not for me. Neg 20s or 30s is not common where I live but happens, I personally don't want to be part of that for long either, I would feel doomed....

Was it freezing fog? I've heard of that, but never experienced it.

Yes it is, its regular fog because the temp drops below the dewpoint, just like any foggy conditions. The temp is below freezing so its called ice fog, the tiny droplets are ice, not water.
