Next year the game is in Indianapolis so they should get someone from that area of country to sing it or go with Kenny G or Jim Brickman!

now, i know she botched the song.. but the girl can sing and if you have ever sang the National Anthem..it is VERY nerve -racking.. ive done it several times and i always have the words in my hand.. doesnt mean i use them but its a crutch.. because to me, that song is so important, you dont want to mess it up..but it happens, she's talented, and most likely embarassed as well.

Obviously, not Christina's finest hour but even if it were....She's( Martina )good enough for the commissoner of the NFL but not a viewing audience of 100+ million...Fine.

Agreed There is no question she is talented out of all the pop singers she has the raw talent to back up the success she has had.

Poor girl she had a bad night.

Perhaps she was too concerned with breaking Patti LaBelle's record for turning single-syllable words into entire paragraphs during the singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner". And, didn't Martina say that there is normally a monitor there with the words. That has to go down as one of the 10 worst, on par with Rosanne Barr.

She should be embarrassed and so should the people who hired her.

If my memory is right then I believe the US National Anthem is actually considered THE most difficult one to sing. But that version was really no good (my humble opinion as a foreigner) I mean tell me : it couldn't have been good at Martina's vocal cords either to be singing at the temperatures that were at the time of the Steelers-Jets game either, still she did a magnificent job !!
Even like the version that last years contestant of German Popstars did at a Titans game in Nashville : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-te-g4V7TI and that couldn't have been easy either (foreign language, foreign anthem and knowing that everyone will butcher you if you get it wrong)
I then couldn't believe when last night the sports commentators who did a marvelous job with the sports comments actually said they liked it. I am so tempted to send them Martina's and Faith's versions and let them know on how it should be done.

Yeah, I agree, it was very disrespectful, the NFL has got to stop getting all these Pop singers to do the anthem, and she shouldn't have said thank you, because it's drawing all the attention on her and not the anthem.

WHYYYYYYYYYYY must we be subjected to Christina Aguilera's botched up overdone version of the National Anthem during the Superbowl when Martina can actually sing it!!!?!?!?! Thank you Martina for actually respecting the melody!

Even the best people make mistakes. May I suggest that forgiveness is a better route than emphasizing an error for public consumption. I did not watch it or even hear about it except for this thread and here I am changing my opinion of Mrs Aguilera. I believe in the old grandmotherly advise that if you can't say anything positive then it is best to say nothing at all.

    Christina Aguilera statement made:
"I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."

Give the poor girl a break, I think some people are way to hard on her. I can't even imagine all the pressure & nerves one would be under in a situation like that.

Still a better vocalist than 80% of the people in the music industry today.

My issue with it stems more from her choice to do the arrangement of the song the way she did.. I can only imagine that this song is incredibly diffiicult to sing and especially nerve-wracking to approach, especially in front of a HUGE crowd of peeps in a stadium that isnt suited for carrying vocals..But, why make an ALREADY incredibly challenging song harder on urself by switching it up? Why sing Fi-i-ah-i-ight for fight? The GIRL can SING!! I put her right up there with the greatest voices of today, just not on this anthem..i think it was her choice to sing it that way, and i didnt like it..my opinion.. Normally, i like when artists step outta the box-jus not this time.. And YES, i cant sing a lick... i also cant cook very well, but i know when i eat something that tastes bad.. Im gonna saunter on over to ITunes tho, and dwnload some songs that i DO like of hers..
